Anna Troup wins the Montane Summer Spine Race 2025

After winning in both 2021 and 2022, British runner Anna Troup has returned for another sensational first place at the Montane Summer Spine Race, winning the women’s race and being the overall champion.

Known as ‘Britain’s Most Brutal,’ the Montane Spine Race is a nonstop 268-mile race that traverses the length of the Pennine Way, beginning in Edale and travelling north to the Scottish border at Kirk Yetholm. During that time, participants take on challenging and technical terrain, covering around 13,300 metres (43,600 ft) of elevation.

After winning the mammoth race in 2022, setting a new summer record that still stands today, Anna broke her foot and has been on a long journey through recovery. Finishing gracefully, Anna showed how real grit and determination can overcome any challenge.

Jon Shield led the race for the first 24 hours, with Anna slowly gaining speed and closing the gap to overtake him following the Alston checkpoint, where they arrived together.

Anna battled the quick summer heat flash to reach Kirk Yetholm in 84:56:37, followed by second female and second overall Frenchwoman Irene Kinnegim (90:58:08). Shane Morgan took first male and third overall in 91:45:56.
